The Picture Show Man website was established in 2004 to be a comprehensive and free resource for anyone interested in vintage movies.  By 2016 the internet, and websites in general, was beginning to render much of our website’s format obsolete and the website was taken offline in 2016.  Now, we are proud to say that we are back and are working hard to reformat, repost, continue our journey, and feed our passion.

Whether you just like to watch old films, would like to find out more about a favorite actor, director or classic movie, or are interested in exploring the rich, fascinating history of the motion picture industry, this website will strive to provide you with a wealth of information in a concise, easy–to–read and easy–to–understand format.

The Picture Show Man website focuses on the history of motion pictures from the beginning of its development in 1890, to the end of 1960.  (Although our coverage will be primarily concerned with the development and evolution of the “American” motion picture industry, we will certainly not ignore the many important events that took place in Europe and the rest of the world during those years.)

We decided to stop at 1960. By that year the foundations of the motion picture industry in the U.S. had been firmly established, while at the same time the structure of the industry had fundamentally changed.  These changes affected virtually every aspect of the American movie industry, from production to distribution to exhibition.

So please lean back in your most comfortable chair and take a leisurely tour of our website, and don’t forget to send us a note.
